Description
Iris Poudre is a masterwork of olfactory contrast and an expression of timeless femininity, composed by Pierre Bourdon. It serves to reinvent and preserve the immense legacy of the grand aldehydic floral fragrances of the 20th century. Bourdon, operating with the historical pedigree of being the sole student of the legendary Edmond Roudnitska, was selected to inaugurate the Éditions de Parfums Frédéric Malle portfolio due to a shared ideology that perfume must be curated and respected as high art, entirely divorced from commercial constraints. The technical and absolute nucleus of the fragrance is the iris rhizome (orris), universally regarded as the ultimate flower of seduction and an ingredient demanding extraordinary patience. The roots must remain subterranean for three years, followed by a meticulous two-year desiccation and maturation process required to fully develop their unique, woody-powdery aroma molecules. This exceptionally rare and costly material yields a long-lasting powdery note that Bourdon elegantly synergizes with the creamy vanilla facets of tonka bean and the clean, cottony comfort of synthetic white musk. Wreathed in a sparkling, amplifying matrix of aldehydes and accented with the cosmetic tones of rose and violet, the composition oscillates flawlessly between sophisticated, classic seduction and infinite, enveloping softness.
